On 26 February 2026, OUCRU Indonesia received an invitation to participate in a coordination meeting on strengthening and defining the strategic direction of the Malaria Surveillance Information System (SISMAL) as part of efforts to accelerate national malaria elimination. The meeting was scheduled to take place on 3–4 March 2026, from 08:00 to 17:00 WIB, conducted both in person at the Directorate General of Health Workforce Building (8th Floor Meeting Room), Ministry of Health, South Jakarta, and virtually via Zoom.

This coordination meeting aimed to reinforce SISMAL as a central instrument for case reporting, data analysis, intervention monitoring, and timely, evidence-based programme decision-making. It also served as a platform for cross-unit and partner coordination to define the future strategic direction for the utilisation and integration of malaria surveillance data.

The meeting brought together key stakeholders, including the Ministry of Health through the Directorate of Communicable Diseases, the Centre for Data and Information, and the Health Technology Transformation and Digitalisation Team. It also involved development partners and international organisations such as the World Health Organization, UNICEF, United Nations Development Programme, the Global Fund, and Castellum Digital Indonesia.

From the academic and research community, malaria expert Iqbal Elyazar also participated. The engagement of these diverse stakeholders highlights the importance of multisectoral collaboration in strengthening an integrated and responsive malaria surveillance system.

Through this coordination meeting, it is expected that a shared understanding will be achieved regarding policy direction and strategic priorities for strengthening SISMAL, thereby supporting a more effective, efficient, and sustainable acceleration of malaria elimination efforts in Indonesia.
