In supporting the acceleration of national malaria elimination, the availability of accurate and timely data serves as a primary instrument for evidence-based decision-making. The Malaria Surveillance Information System (SISMAL) continues to be developed not only as a case reporting platform but also as a strategic analytical tool to comprehensively monitor the effectiveness of field interventions.

The future strengthening of SISMAL is focused on enhancing the utilisation of surveillance data and ensuring robust integration of programme information across various work units. With a clear strategic direction, the system is expected to provide sharper epidemiological insights to guide elimination efforts throughout Indonesia.

As part of this commitment, the Directorate General of Disease Prevention and Control of the Ministry of Health organised the "Coordination Meeting for the Strengthening and Strategic Direction of SISMAL" on Tuesday-Wednesday, 3-4 March 2026, at the Directorate General of Health Professionals Building, Jakarta. The meeting brought together representatives from the Centre for Data and Information (Pusdatin), digital technology transformation teams, and development partners. During this coordination, Iqbal Ridzi Fahdri Elyazar, DPhil attended as a malaria expert to provide technical input on strengthening surveillance data analysis and the strategic use of SISMAL in supporting national programmes.

Through this cross-unit and expert coordination, it is expected that stronger synergy in managing health information systems will be achieved. Digital transformation through SISMAL remains key to ensuring that every malaria control effort in Indonesia is driven by valid data and measurable strategies.
