Malaria elimination efforts in the Asia-Pacific region require strong leadership and sustained technical collaboration between nations. As part of the preparations for the upcoming high-level regional leaders' summit, strengthening policy concepts and instruments remains a priority agenda to ensure that all resulting commitments can be effectively implemented at both national and regional levels.

A primary focus of these preparations is the development of a comprehensive framework to mobilise all stakeholders in accelerating the disruption of malaria transmission. The national initiative currently being drafted aims to strengthen cross-sectoral mandates and consolidate resources to meet established elimination targets.

To finalise these preparations, the Ministry of Health convened the "Core Team Coordination Meeting for APLMA Malaria Summit Preparation and the PMI Initiative Concept Note" on Friday, 14 February 2025. The meeting, held in Jakarta, brought together representatives from international organisations, programme managers, and technical experts. During this strategic coordination, Iqbal Ridzi Fahdri Elyazar, DPhil attended as a malaria expert to provide technical input regarding the initiative's concept and offer expert perspectives in designing the high-level summit agenda.

This meeting serves as a crucial step in aligning the vision between development partners and the government prior to the international forum. The synergy between the technical expertise of specialists like Iqbal Elyazar and policy support is expected to produce a sharper roadmap for accelerating malaria elimination in Indonesia and the wider region.
