In an effort to accelerate national malaria elimination, the Ministry of Health once again convened a Coordination Meeting on the Alignment of Positive Case Estimates and Malaria Testing Targets for the 2026–2029 period. The meeting was held on 31 March 2026, both in person at GAMA Tower in South Jakarta and virtually via Zoom, bringing together a broad range of cross-sector stakeholders.
This coordination forum serves as a strategic platform to ensure that future malaria programme planning is grounded in accurate estimates of disease burden and measurable testing targets. Such alignment is essential to support effective intervention planning, strengthen surveillance systems, and optimise logistical requirements across endemic regions.
The meeting also emphasised the importance of refining estimates based on programme achievements in 2024 and 2025. Evaluating these data provides insights into current epidemiological trends and forms the basis for setting more realistic and context-specific targets in line with field conditions. Through an evidence-based approach, programme planning is expected to become more adaptive and operationally feasible.
Participants included representatives from the government, international organisations such as the World Health Organization and UNICEF, academics from Universitas Gadjah Mada, as well as foundation partners such as Perdhaki. The meeting also featured malaria expert Iqbal Elyazar. The involvement of these diverse stakeholders is expected to strengthen inclusive and comprehensive decision-making processes in shaping malaria elimination strategies.
