The National University of Singapore, through the Saw Swee Hock School of Public Health, organises the Stakeholder Needs Assessment Workshop for Epidemic Preparedness and Response Modelling Training on 25–26 May 2026 at the Millennium Hilton Bangkok, Thailand. The workshop aims to identify priority needs and gaps in modelling for epidemic preparedness and response, while also supporting the development of a training curriculum for public health practitioners.
The programme brings together a wide range of stakeholders, including experts in modelling, epidemiology, data analysis, academia, training, as well as representatives of policymakers and public health practitioners from various countries. Through structured discussions and collaborative sessions, participants discuss the development of modelling competencies that are relevant to operational needs and public health decision-making.
The workshop agenda includes the validation of the learner profile matrix, harmonisation of priority epidemic scenarios, development of training modules, discussions on learning preferences, and the exploration of AI case studies in epidemic modelling. The workshop is expected to produce an action plan and prioritised modelling scenarios that will serve as the foundation for the development of an open-access curriculum in epidemic preparedness and public health response.
As part of the forum, Dr Iqbal Elyazar from OUCRU Indonesia receives an official invitation to participate in the workshop as one of the stakeholders and experts in epidemiology and public health modelling. The involvement of participants from diverse backgrounds is expected to strengthen regional collaboration and ensure that the curriculum developed is more contextual, adaptive, and relevant to epidemic preparedness challenges in Southeast Asia.
The workshop receives support from the Bill & Melinda Gates Foundation and forms part of broader efforts to strengthen global capacity in responding to future infectious disease threats.
