The Government of Indonesia is currently preparing a strategic national step through the Presidential Call to End Malaria Initiative (PCMI) as a concrete effort to accelerate malaria elimination across the country, with a primary focus on the Papua region. This initiative is designed to be a catalyst across ministries, agencies, and various stakeholders to ensure that the target of a Malaria-Free Indonesia by 2030 is achieved through a robust and integrated policy mandate.
In preparation for the launch of this initiative, the Directorate General of Disease Prevention and Control of the Ministry of Health organised a cross-sectoral coordination meeting on Thursday, 12 June 2025. This gathering aimed to refine the initial concept of PCMI, covering the core pillar principles and reporting mechanisms that will be governed under a Presidential Instruction policy instrument. The meeting also served as a vital forum to align the Papua Governors' Forum agenda within the framework of the 9th Asia Pacific Leaders’ Summit on Malaria Elimination in Bali.
During these pivotal discussions, various stakeholders and technical experts were involved to strengthen the policy framework being developed. Among the participants, Iqbal Elyazar, Ph.D. attended as a malaria expert to provide technical input and evidence-based data to reinforce the PCMI concept. Through the involvement of experts and strategic partners, it is expected that the PCMI will become an effective instrument in consolidating the nation's collective strength to end the burden of malaria comprehensively and sustainably.
