Achieving the national malaria elimination target requires rigorous and periodic evaluations of programme indicator achievements across all regions. Given the complexity of field challenges, coordination between the government, development partners, and research institutions is vital to ensure that applied strategies remain relevant and effective. Collective programme reviews allow for the identification of operational bottlenecks and the formulation of strategic solutions to accelerate the breaking of malaria transmission chains.

Through a comprehensive evaluation of indicator achievements, stakeholders can map regions with significant progress as well as those still requiring special attention. This synergy ensures that resources are allocated efficiently and health interventions are conducted based on accurate data, ensuring that the target of a malaria-free Indonesia is achieved on schedule.

As part of this commitment, the Directorate General of Disease Prevention and Control (P2P) of the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Indonesia convened a virtual "Malaria Programme Review Coordination Meeting" on Wednesday, 14 January 2026. The meeting brought together programme managers and technical experts. During this coordination, Iqbal Elyazar, Ph.D. attended as a malaria expert to provide reviews and evidence-based input to strengthen national malaria policies.

The meeting focused on evaluating indicator achievements, identifying strategic barriers in the field, and aligning intervention strategies in surveillance and case management. The presence of experts and researchers such as Iqbal Elyazar in this forum ensures that every formulated priority step is based on sharp data analysis.

Moving forward, the results of this review will serve as the foundation for adjusting operational strategies at both central and regional levels. With more solid coordination and transparent evaluation, Indonesia’s malaria control programme is expected to become more accelerative, ensuring every region reaches elimination status in accordance with the established roadmap.
