The Government of Indonesia continues to reaffirm its commitment to achieving malaria elimination by 2030. This commitment is demonstrated through the implementation of the Malaria Programme Review, which forms a critical component in preparing the funding application for the Global Fund (GF) Malaria Grant Cycle 8. The activity was conducted on 19–20 February 2026, both in person at the UNICEF Indonesia Office in Jakarta and virtually via Zoom Meeting.

The national malaria elimination programme is currently guided by two key strategic documents: the National Action Plan for Malaria Elimination (RANPEM) 2020–2026 and the Malaria Elimination Roadmap 2025–2045. Its implementation adopts a sub-national approach, targeting phased certification of malaria elimination from district to provincial levels, alongside regional verification supported by WHO.

This desk review brought together a wide range of stakeholders, including government representatives, international organisations, academics, such malaria expert Dr Iqbal Elyazar. The involvement of cross-sector experts is expected to enhance programme planning quality and ensure alignment between national strategies and field realities.

Over the two-day event, discussions focused on several key areas. The first day covered adjustments to malaria targets within the national action plan, progress on the programme review, and in-depth discussions on malaria surveillance. The second day centred on a thematic desk review of vector control, a core intervention in malaria elimination efforts.

Through this forum, participants actively reviewed programme achievements, identified challenges, and formulated strategic recommendations to improve intervention effectiveness. This process also provides a strong foundation for developing a more comprehensive and evidence-based funding proposal.

The activity underscores the importance of multi-stakeholder collaboration in accelerating malaria elimination. With strong synergy between government, international partners, and other stakeholders, Indonesia’s goal of becoming malaria-free by 2030 is expected to be achieved effectively, measurably, and sustainably.
